Shenyang Normal University

The campus library as viewed from "Time Square", ground zero of the campus...

Upon entering the library, you suddenly find
yourself in this luxuriantly spacious foyer or "enclosed inner courtyard"...

The Faculty of Sciences...

Times Square and the library in the depths of winter...

Times Square and the Faculty of Sciences confronted by snow banks...

A snowbound Faculty of Arts...

A student shovel brigade, back dropped by their pink-clad dormitories, deal with a fresh snow fall...

And here stands Da' Man, himself - Confucius, Teacher of Teachers, watching over this citadel of learning so impeccably and placidly impervious to the snow and -20% C temperature...

One small benefit of the arctic winter temperature:  the south soccer field and old cinder track is flooded and frozen over to make an ice skating rink for the students. So, it's not "all work and no play" on this campus...

One of the benefits and privileges accorded to the faculty: the faculty dining commons, pictured above, serves a full and very satisfying (mainly vegetarian) lunch to the faculty for 15 cents Yankee a pop...

The Foreign Affairs Building which houses both the classrooms for the Chinese language classes (on the right) and the accommodations for the "foreign faculty" that includes Yours Truly (on the left)...

And just in front of the FAB are these small bistros intended to serve students residing in those dormitories behind them quick and cheap meals. But all of us foreign faculty residing in the FAB end up patronizing them quite a bit since they are so inexpensive and convenient. Why bother with shopping, cooking, and washing dishes when you can just pop over and have a fully prepared meal for one buck American and just leave all the dirty dishes on the table, eh??
