The Streets of Shenyang 1

The soaring television tower just south of the
city center - proud symbol of modern Shenyang crossing the threshold into the 21st Century...

In the shadow of the television tower,
this serene tree-shaded canal...

Yet another view of the canal and the
"weekend fishermen" lining it...

Further along, some old pensioners
playing Chinese chess...

...and on the other side of the shady street
running alongside the canal...

On the corner of another street still in the
vicinity of the tower, one of the myriad
"makeshift" bicycle repair facilities you
find throughout the city...

Zhong Jie or "Main Street" - one of the two
largest pedestrian-only shopping thoroughfares
in downtown Shenyang...

At the gateway to "Zhong Jie"
(that's what those Chinese characters say)...

My favorite "trinket shop" (aka jewelry store) toward the middle of Zhong Jie where I obtained many of the souvenirs many of you now have in your possession...

A downtown street on a pleasant
early summer day...

The downtown bicycle shop (called
"Dark Horse") where I had my bike (in the foreground) custom outfitted with a raised seat
and Japanese Shimano gears...

Now, what could they be selling in this
shop called "Black Girl Food"??
(I stuck my head inside, quickly, but
couldn't make anything out...)
