The Streets of Shenyang 2

Stalin's memory is alive and well in the image of these drab and dilapidated workmen's apartments built at the end of WWII that still exist in large numbers just north of downtown...

One of the myriad of small streets in the warren-like
neighborhoods occupying the outlying areas of the city - this one being nearby the university...

And many of the streets in these "rural" neighborhoods still need to have "their act cleaned up" and modernized...

Ode to Good Ol' Sal the mule and the cart she hauls - in spring...

summer...

and, brrrrrr!, winter!

Local neighborhood street market being visited by two Ft. Hayes State University faculty direct from Kansas...

Local neighborhood fresh produce street market...

Springtime strawberries available on every local street corner - absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS!

Grand opening ceremonies of a new store in the local neighborhood just across the street from the university presided over (upper right) by the idealized face of the new and modern China...

San Hao Jie or "Triple Good Street" to all you "lo-wei" ("ferrenners"). This is where we go to get all our computer and other electronic gear. This photo was taken in the dead of last winter and if you think it looked COLD, you're DAMN right it was!!!

There I am standing in front of downtown Shenyang's own "Wal-Mart Supercenter!" Who says China hasn't "Finally and Fully Arrived"???
